There is probably no more exciting place to travel as a family than on safari in Africa. It’s not a holiday; it’s an adventure, an educational experience that bonds people together and an incredible opportunity for children to learn and forge a deep connection to nature.
Therefore, building on years of experience and thousands of miles travelled across the continent, we wanted to share our favourite safari lodges that work well for families and multi-generational groups. Don’t hesitate to contact us to know more.
1) Arijiju, Laikipia – Northern Kenya
Unlike any safari lodge, this private sanctuary is located within Kenya‘s exclusive Borana Conservancy. The homely design makes it the perfect place to relax and spend quality time together. Babysitters are available and kids can choose between tennis, rhino conservation or watching movies in the home cinema between game drives. In addition, Borana Conservancy is home to the original pride rock that inspired The Lion King.
2) Morokuru Family Madikwe, Madikwe Game Reserve – South Africa
As the name suggests, everything revolves around family at Morukuru – it truly is their raison d’etre. They have three safari lodges in the Madikwe Game Reserve – all of which guarantee great sightings – and only operate in malaria-free areas. The properties offer everything from booster seats in vehicles and spoor trekking to pizza-making classes.
3) Camp Kalahari, Makgadikgadi Salt Pans – Botswana
There’s so much to say about this camp – one of only three in a million-acre nature reserve. Located on the edge of the world’s largest salt pans, the experience is unique – in terms of landscape, night skies, flora, fauna and activities. Stand-out experiences include educational nature walks with bushmen, quad-biking over the pans and spending time with habituated meerkats.
